XT-830 is an alkaline silica sol for investment casting shells in the same family as XT-1430 but with a finer particle size (below 10 nm) and a larger specific surface area (about 300 m²/g), giving deeper penetration and higher bond strength. It suits prime coats and the shells of complex thin-wall castings, where it delivers higher shell density and a smoother surface. The product is non-toxic and odourless; it is slurried with refractory powders such as zircon flour and mullite, then built up shell by shell in the dip–stucco–dry cycle, producing shells that are strong after high-temperature firing yet easy to break out. It is also used in coatings, catalyst carriers, textile sizing, metal surface treatment and fire-retardant materials. Supplied in 25 kg or 250 kg drums and in bulk; keep sealed, away from light and protected from freezing.
