It is used in boiler water treatment, medicine and fermentation; in industry as a phosphorus and potassium regulator, a bacterial culture agent and a raw material for making potassium metaphosphate; as a liquid fertilizer and a corrosion inhibitor for ethylene glycol antifreeze; as a nutritional supplement in animal feed; and in food it is used for fermentation and as a flavoring agent, leavening agent, buffer, and mild alkaline agent in dairy products.
